cranberry we are of course [0:21] in season 2 and I am here with one of The 4est Producers out of two countries Dominque and Martin [0:30] little boy little boy I'm so excited to have you on p with cranberry what's going [0:35] on I thanks for having me there okay tell me a little bit about your background first of [0:42] all tell me what is your what is your actual name my real name mhm okay well my first name [0:51] is LEL okay my second name is Foster okay and my foot name is Mel okay LEL Foster [1:00] myself okay and where did the little boy come from um just like I I would like just like that [1:09] just like that we we have a little man in did did little man influence the little boy cuz [1:15] little produce too you know yeah for the for the for the confirmation yeah is the little man that [1:21] make me as if I looking for my name like me and my cousin like I was making a account online for [1:27] my beat and what me put for my beat something to I wanted something boy it black boy skin I looking [1:37] for that so my grandmother come and she say hey little boy and I watch my I say little boy then [1:44] like yeah boy little boy little boy can go and plus when I think about it a little man and he's [1:49] still doing producing and a little man little boy and just Mak sense make sense Mak sense but [1:56] tell me a little bit about your upbringing did you grow up in Martini or in Dominica and how um [2:04] growing up influenc your passion for music has music always been something that you wanted to [2:10] do yeah yeah always as my father my father was singing was a singer have oh to sing as okay my [2:20] mother listen to a lot of his music I to for okay I'm think so so um I was always in music and I [2:31] I can't say I grew up in mnik alone and in Domin I born in matnik I grew up in Dominica okay but when [2:38] I go back my my parents was always like sending us back every days was in Dominica like for the year [2:44] I was always in Dominica so like really I grow up with both um both yeah both cultur like mnik [2:54] listen to mnik music Dominica music matnik music I think and people always me but bits different [3:01] I don't know if it's because the second culture when I put in bits I still have the M thing yeah [3:08] because I lived I lived in martinque for a few years after after Maria I moved to martinque [3:15] and back then like they had no clue what boo was like I I I was working I'm you from M so I'm sure [3:24] in casot you know this place called kidada okay I used to work at kidada as a bender and like I'll [3:32] be telling all my coworkers about boyo and then I'd be like they don't know nothing about Boya was [3:38] hot like in God but then when I used to like play tracks for them was like yeah yeah yeah that's [3:43] something good but they they don't know it they didn't know it back then so and today now I see [3:50] that is becoming popular in M do you feel like you influence that sort of shift in the culture in m [4:00] for them to appreciate Bo a lot more because bu has been very dominant in gu but it's it's [4:06] a new thing in the mat culture right now well I don't want to take a have a big want say I [4:13] don't to boast too much about myself boting is not boasting is being honest I would say [4:19] I I wouldn't say me alone I wouldn't say it's me alone like me that but I will say I part of [4:27] it you have a big part to play because big big big big big because why um you see like them [4:37] mhm were introduced I will tell you exactly when R penetrated the mnik um [4:51] in mnik audience um Tik Tok had became a huge thing um during just after Maria and during [4:59] B time and my my Tik Tok was still like I was mostly in French people because I created Tik [5:07] Tok when I was in Ma and everybody in matin was doing a Tik Tok to Chin wine yeah yeah yeah you [5:15] see you see I I I not the one but I may part of it but before that there was already coming to [5:22] yeah but you've been producing beats for a very long time so you should not dplay your impact [5:30] you should not don't play your impact don't play but just for me a group of us not alone I agree [5:36] I agree but if you had to pinpoint certain um artists or genres that influence your style of [5:47] music um which artist or which genres would you say speaks to who little boy is and when you hear [5:55] a little boy production be besides the little boy how we looking what would make you say like that's [6:01] little boy I'm Ry like ryy music yeah I love that like I love Ry music like Ry like Ry music I love [6:10] I would say gospel music too but not like Ry but gospel music I like I grew up in the gospel music [6:16] like been in church every time I I always he in my up to my mother my sister still listen to GOP [6:22] music like me too sometime I don't did you did you produce any um tracks for your dad no no because [6:31] like okay before he die he have to do one on my bit but he di oh okay okay because when before [6:38] he that's when I really get into like trying to make it some St of music and one had like sing [6:45] on do you think that if your dad were still here he would be proud of the work that you're doing [6:59] right now yeah you would have been proud but trust me you would not too much agre because [7:06] when I used to make beats used to be happy like sometime to be calling me and tell me [7:10] hey why is he P of your be and whatever because somebody tell somebody about me son did that so [7:15] I know used to tell people my son doing that my son doing this and but he used to tell me [7:21] like for I have to do it bat I was really seeing him yet when he was Al when said bro my father I [7:29] was like we was leaving on his music mhm so like no my father di long time people telling mey to [7:37] sing step I try to sing I try [7:44] song [7:48] Milli okay but I know he would have be telling me I'm for God or whatever like those love to [8:00] much what what um what would you consider was your breakthrough [8:16] moment in music because you've been doing beats for a very long time [8:22] but what would you say that really you know put little boy on the map I would [8:33] I say life okay I think like before that song [8:42] INRI but dog life I think dog life is the first one I up to today I think I Island okay life I [8:57] can do anywh and be like what yeah oh that's you that's a little boy production okay yeah [9:04] tell me a little bit about the journey and the success of the hit song someone else [9:11] because someone else have over 5 million views on YouTube right now and you know it's not very [9:20] often that we see trinidadians specifically embracing something that is not necessarily [9:31] there but someone else in all party is have that is Trinidad carnibal fet someone else dominating [9:42] more than the songs that the Trinidadian artist made for Carnival season so tell me how does it [9:50] feel to have that kind of success and to penetrate in a market like Trinidad I know you've produced [9:56] the Beats for Trinidadian artist in the past but that song is actually a you song and you [10:03] singing and you know you have Quan and Trilogy on that I saw that you guys did a whole um you know [10:09] radio promo toour in Trin that oh tell me how it feels to have that that sort of success and tell [10:17] me a little bit more about how this song came to be well I I I I feel nice blessed talented [10:29] I want so yeah I feel like feeling shocked still because I I would have think that that [10:38] song would have been would have been as big as yeah I F Dom yeah I like I [10:45] was I really wasn't I wasn't expecting that at all yeah so it was kind of like [10:57] a shocker for you yeah for me I wasn't that at all if you have some things [11:02] come out a little bit later I don't talk too much about it I I would be [11:06] surprised [11:10] okay so we we're going to see because I saw I saw one of your interviews with um one of [11:22] the radio stations in in Trinidad I think it was with with um sh Marshall and Zing dong [11:29] oh okay and every rthm that being drop he want to know if that is for somebody if he can get on [11:38] it I'm like okay so I already see that little boy going to be getting a lot of calls from Trinidad [11:44] I one even in my Beats on them MH I I see see that people they stting to L yeah no for a while it you [12:03] see get but for a little while it have some I underground in Trinidad been linking fam and [12:11] people have been linking me already from Trinidad like yeah it's like I was think I was expecting [12:18] to Trin to but not now I was expecting to know be like like that I see coup from someone else [12:27] I was no no no going to happen well it had to have a time for it to happen and I I think now [12:33] is is is the appropriate time I see that you know Trilogy has has been having quite a few um events [12:40] where he's performing this song um I know you know around during the during the CR Festival season um [12:50] he did mention on CR Festival stage um that you know it was unfortunate that he was performing [12:57] with signal band at C festival and you andan had to be on another event um I think it was in St [13:05] Lucia okay um do how how how did you feel about you know the the outage that you know you guys [13:19] have the biggest song across the entire Caribbean you are free Dominicans and you know you didn't [13:27] get that opportunity to be on the biggest stage in Dominica tell the truth I don't like [13:37] no a challenge okay was there must make more tun until one day have them and I would like [13:59] respect to all the fans and them there because even when you come back domica [14:02] they tell me some people them on the radio it was like a whole big conversation during [14:10] the I I respect that like you see mhm even saying oh all about the place and fesal and never change [14:23] we just keep on pushing I take example for that we just keep on pushing his music [14:30] headline on on do keep on pushing until for [14:36] Meine challeng I feel type of [14:43] way you know and there's this thing that um and they say that's a lot in [14:53] Domin like people from Domin are not necessarily [15:00] easily embraced by the Dominican audience um it's like we tend to wait until people from the [15:07] outside talking so much about that artist before we say like yeah that's our artist do you feel [15:14] that type of way yeah so okay maybe not for maybe for because I I Che like Bo Dom so much talent mhm [15:25] yeah but I always say you say I get a big producer mhm but I know I got plenty money just by taking [15:31] Dominican artist alone like bti but I know if I dominent money just my Village still feel [15:43] small [15:47] sing my cin sing up there Thomas is your cin my [15:54] cousin yeah my cousin Thomas my cousin like when I he like any [16:01] I but for not for I wouldn't say for because I see it it does have [16:09] to BU when it come to it do BU Dom first and then [16:14] after after like I [16:30] for a long while yeah but for other genre I I I find that plenty bad artist that's in trap thing [16:41] but I doesn't find that give too much Expos like that okay yeah well we're going to switch it up a [16:48] little bit and I'm going to ask you um some quick questions and you're going to give me the first [16:55] thing that come to your to your mind when I ask you that question what's your favorite instrument [17:00] to produce with drum okay yeah Dr when it comes to Studio morning or late night day I stud that [17:13] my my job when I wake up breakfast studio until an studio just outside of my room okay so when I [17:21] come from the room I go outside the stud okay um what genre would you like to experiment [17:27] with in the future R AF and okay one artist you would love to collaborate with is okay what's a [17:39] memorable performance that stands out in your career the first time CH on my first time on [17:47] stage my first time on stage okay and what's what's the first song that you ever produced [18:02] I don't think but he someone in France with was about long time but the first [18:09] one for me by myself would be fashy okay FY and if you were to perform anywhere in [18:15] new world like your dream location to perform where would it be Africa [18:20] okay and who is your favorite artist of all time tazy you love tazy why you man [18:30] what what is one food from Martin and one food from Dominica that you cannot live without I mm [18:41] and like um who is an underrated artist or a producer from the L that you think the world [19:00] needs to hear primx primx I've never heard that that person before tell me a little bit [19:06] about well I will look out for Prim um what's the last song that you listen to that you had [19:17] on repeat well um the last song I had on mhm oh um but know song to come when I when I go home I look [19:33] for that if it's something all like people know MH signal which one oh I love that song that's [19:42] and is top top or if you could choose one that you would have to listen to for a whole day which one [20:05] okay and what is your goto hype song before a performance what is that one song that you know [20:13] if you listen to that you you have the energy to go oh um CH which one boy I don't know I can [20:23] just so so can we say that um triple K is one of your Inspirations my biggest inspiration is Tri K [20:36] okay my biggest I think I well the B introduced me not I like I come from a gospel family like [20:46] that I and thatf sing and Dr from I some I used to hear them sometime but me like okay and if if you [21:03] wouldn't make it music what would you be doing I don't maybe engineering like song be something in [21:11] engineering if it's not nothing maybe whatever job I get but I know like when I was going to [21:16] school I was heading to do things that was to do with engineering and all yeah because your your [21:23] father was into music so you just gravitate towards that but have to do with social media [21:31] internet music describe your production style in three words my production in three wordss [21:41] mhm Me Myself [21:47] and you okay all right I I'll take back oh [21:59] so we're going to go into this part that I like to call sound off where I'm going [22:03] to play different tracks um some will be yours some will not be yours and you're [22:11] going to tell me the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear that track okay so you [22:17] [Music] ready scar not thee Minister now but doing scary doing scary because is [22:27] he that make the contact for all like for me to that when I was first meeting and he that [22:33] make it happen he that make the collab happen think like boy nice man call him [22:43] SC true story yeah tell me this story your girlfriend was always back all them names I [22:59] I call in in in the song is like it's for True like my ex not my but my ex like all [23:05] them names I call is like really what that happened for you okay yeah like my cousin sh [23:10] was taking like was but was really my cousin from all like really happen yeah yeah yeah he [23:22] heat okay first thing that come to mind is heat mhm [23:47] I don't know if you know that one but you'll tell me who that inspiration because I I I [23:58] I want with that song that looking like that okay yeah yeah like I told my cousin [24:04] the last time my cousin that's DJ and he was playing that I see boy I want to make like a [24:08] kind of new like a new school version of that song there okay yeah all right all right all [24:14] [Music] [24:19] right yeah dreams dreams yeah I that dreams a dream dream okay all right all right all [24:35] [Music] right my daughter I don't know why but it's not my when I make it di not my [24:44] daughter in mind but you see now I have my daughter every time I thinking about [24:48] that thinking about you my daughter thinking about I don't know why like [25:00] [Music] [25:01] Legend little boy how we looking break out you think that break you out more [25:14] right yeah like this I always wanted to do uhhuh I that because that's the first [25:19] one I tried okay yeah that's the one I try like I always want to do a thing like that [25:24] and I and try and that's one I try and it work out nice I I I I love um what's his [25:30] name Rio okay Boom song on that reading yeah from pville shorty bad okay really sing like [25:40] what yeah I I I get the idea for that okay so while you all on the [25:54] radio to you get the inspiration as soon as we finish on the radio [25:58] play music that song boy that song Bad and don't know that song man a classic [26:05] song doing it and that's a that's a old school little boy I say break [26:21] but yeah because somebody seen before and it was a [26:31] okay am I beginning [26:35] to yeah my [Laughter] future [26:44] like and we're going to play a really new drop recently about 2 months ago [26:59] uh I that's say me okay yeah I [27:02] mean okay and what what would you say you know put your stamp on on a production like [27:14] besides you know scar say the look when somebody hear a beat what makes [27:22] them say like yeah you see that I know that little boy that is that is my I I I I don't [27:29] know I is I don't it's like everybody have their style of doing I don't know [Music] [27:40] everybody looking like I do that I don't know what does see that my own sty so tell me tell me [27:54] what is your what is your process when it comes to making a beat how how a beat coming together [28:01] for you okay okay the start maybe I'll up in the morning IDE Fresh So I start it up start the IDE [28:11] everything first then after take a B BB to be B and I go when I get the IDE drink a little bit [28:22] and then whatever that come in my head with piano keyboard I just do anything or sometime I'll just [28:28] be like let me try something I do do today and just go in the computer see what that I do never [28:33] use and then I must get something I like it okay something it depends really depends but [28:40] most times just wake up in the morning I tell you I one thing I take Serious is like the music so [28:47] I wake up in the morning breakfast everything Studio One Time okay that's one and how would [28:54] you would you say though we talking about like you you grew up in two different islands you you [29:01] also you know lived in France for a little while so let's talk about how you know those different [29:07] cultures inspired your music and you also grew up in a musical family your father was a very famous [29:14] gospel singer like I grew up in a Christian home too and your father musical my stepa is [29:21] still playing so tell me how how those different musical tradition Inspire your work and if at all [29:32] does some of the music that your father used to create inspire you even if your father um [29:38] did gospel but you you do know that there are gospel artists that sing Bo one yeah that's my [29:47] cin to yeah yeah he was bad he wasad yeah so tell me does did your father um influence any [29:59] of your of your work and how did the different the Traditions when it comes to music because [30:06] you know m m has their own style of music Dom have their own style how those two different styles um [30:13] Inspire and influence the kind of bits that you produce yeah well I I think it's taken apart from [30:20] everything you like I tell just Ry I I love Ry I know like plenty s some in to playing whatever [30:31] I know that part there and even like when I singing plenty people tell me in I'm leaving [30:38] iing I was I wasn't thinking about that you know but in leaving like your father yeah me like my [30:45] father plenty people even my family tell me why you like your father like now that you tell me [30:52] during the interview cuz I didn't realize that for was your father but now that you I know that I can [30:59] hear definitely definitely you should sing you should sing more I think I [31:09] take that from you and I think in France what I get there think African you see [31:17] like FL in it is like an African song I Know Okay and like what [31:26] I listen to this song is like I was just messing around and I that video [31:30] you shot that in St Martin which one oh no oh okay got my sisters and my [31:38] brothers but you lived in St Martin for a little while but [31:45] I was not leaving but I was you see whole okay whole when place was lock [31:49] down for so and so people think was i' go there for a funeral oh and when I [31:58] there and I see it for a while mostly whole okay well that's a very long while ago so it was like [32:13] you um but how how do you see your role as a producer and your your Productions you know [32:33] pushing the boyo on a on a global scene and making it you know even more relevant in the [32:40] Caribbean how I what how I seen myself yeah what is what what role do you see your your [32:47] Productions playing in you know pushing the boyo on a on a wider scale okay okay before answer m [32:58] it's not I I don't it's not I don't don't say is Notting your by asking you question I just [33:05] want you to answer the question honestly okay okay because let us be in when people talking [33:14] about bu right now you're not going to hear them necessarily mentioning other names other than DJ [33:22] Taffy um little boy quandon trilogy gu gal B DJ mg so you know those are the names that people [33:34] are calling so I want you to tell me how do you because you are a producer so a lot of the artists [33:42] going to be singing on little boy beats I I do B about myself I want to say I do B about myself but [33:53] I find m important Ro because okay it's like in in guad the first ever Bo that reach a million views [34:06] I make the for it okay in Dominica the first Bo that make a million views I make the okay so you [34:14] have to boast yourself no I don't to boast myself I just want I don't not boast but you you can be [34:20] proud of your accomplishments and remain humble you know but you have to acknowledge that yes I [34:26] did that that is me I did that I did that even in Africa 16 million views I I I do it to I so [34:36] you should be proud of yourself and you should be proud to talk about your accomplishments I [34:41] I want people to think that boting myself what what is the the one beat you you produced that [34:51] you would say that you most proud of well I don't think I have won but I I'm more [34:58] like the first one that making me like there and dog life no not even that one no the [35:05] one [35:09] milon I know that song I know that song so you see you just saying oh all you probably [35:22] don't know it but I know that song I know my music yeah that the first ever [35:28] was okay um if you were to give any advice to somebody who is probably aspiring to be a producer [35:38] or an artist like you and what advice would you give to them okay well the first one before I go [35:45] in the other one find out first if you do making [ __ ] I don't you to think that doing something [35:50] good and and not good find out first like be sure that you're doing something that good already and [35:56] if you sure and even come back you you know good and for yourself good that's don't never stop okay [36:02] yeah never stop never stop if if you have to be I'm thinking about out of the think about out of [36:08] the you you have to be thinking about out of the island think about out of the island but it just [36:13] don't never stop because the time you going to stop every time you want to want to come back not [36:18] going to be like just never stop it and when it when it comes to you know producing and creating [36:25] music whether it's creating a beat or probably writing a song how do you handle um or how do you [36:32] deal with creative blocks well most time when I Mak beat it's like as I make beats making randomly [36:40] and I'll get a nice idea on some beats and I'll be like nobody for myself I just make a song on [36:46] it or sometime I don't know why but when go by the river I don't know you see like doo mhm I [36:53] couldn't even remember where get it but my family time me the was by the river but all [Music] [37:02] AF the idea I know I was by the something like that not okay not me I get the idea but when I [37:10] get to put it in a song yeah because is a sling so when I get to put inong I know to I don't know [37:22] you just get your inspiration it eat you like somewhere like that like when I just most time [37:30] most time but most time when I make beat I'll do a beat and I'll catch idea on it nice so do [37:38] you have any exciting projects or collaborations you can tell us about I can tell all you about [37:47] that come in don't keep everything in the bag for yourself man give us a little a little [37:59] for sure okay for [38:01] sure you can [38:05] hold okay okay okay and where where do you see to make a song but [38:28] IAD happen my we just never talk about making our music together must happen [38:41] one that if that when it happens is going to be an amazing production that [38:49] you and he does make things that like to listen to but where do you envision your [38:57] music going in the next few years where do you see little boy in the next Africa and St [39:06] butrica Africa first and do you do you see yourself dab I know you love the booy you [39:15] love the boyo but do you see yourself dabbling in different styles and different genas in your [39:22] production yeah man yeah yeah like so some coule well that I start I want to make a [39:32] song okay well we're coming to the end of the show little boy what is the last [39:43] thing that you would like to see to your fans always be all yourself even all your [39:51] parents do your WR always H your parents and he does always H your parents and [39:57] even I remember that honor other parents more than father and just believe in yourself and [40:04] go stay home do nothing even though you stay in home make sure when you do you home or as you [40:10] have internet now make sure like if you staying on your computer you have to do something that [40:15] do something productive yeah just do stay there and say Domin you have internet now you can do [40:22] things that making you do have to leave Dominica and you can make money out of it you can produ [40:27] to producers to any general you making make sure try to get a computer work get a computer [40:33] and make one in trust me well thank you so much little boy for taking the time out of [40:40] your busy busy busy schedule to come and speak to me it's been a pleasure having you here
