Twenty years in media. Saying that out loud feels a little unreal.
But my love for words and storytelling started before my first job. In high school, I was a top English student and a member of the school’s debating team. I already enjoyed expressing myself, building an argument and having something to say.
When I stepped into the newsroom at SAT Telecommunications in 2006, fresh out of college, I was bringing that foundation with me. That was the beginning of my professional media career.
A voice across platforms
I went on to write entertainment stories for PartyDominica, work with Dominica Source and serve as a correspondent for the Dominica Post. I also became a radio personality at Kairi FM, connecting with people through another medium.
At TEMPO Networks, I became the representative in Dominica, hosted local programming from home and eventually served as head of programming and acquisitions. From presenting stories in Dominica to helping shape what audiences would see across the Caribbean, that was a significant chapter.
A home for my own storytelling
Then I created CranberryTV: a space for conversation, entertainment, travel, food and Caribbean culture. Through Parlé with Cranberry, documentary work and experiences across the region, I’ve continued following my curiosity.
Sometimes that means a conversation with an artist. Sometimes it means a festival, somewhere new or a meal worth talking about. And sometimes, I get to play tourist right here in Dominica. Home still has stories that surprise me.
My work has also reached audiences through TEMPO and Digicel. I want the people, places and experiences we share here to be seen beyond our shores.
Still creating
The industry has changed so much since 2006, and I’ve grown with it. There have been moments when I’ve had to rethink my direction, back myself and keep going without having everything figured out.
To everyone who has watched, listened, read, shared my work or trusted me with their story: thank you. You’ve helped make this journey what it is.
And to that girl on the school debating team, with her love of English and plenty to say: look where that voice has taken us.
I’m Crandall Régy, known to many of you as Cranberry. Twenty years of using my voice, telling our stories and making room for my own. And I still have so much more to share.
